What You Should Know About Offset Printing

Many important tasks in a business such as maintaining flow of information within the company and Marketing the products of the company require printing service. Offset printing is the most commonly used printing technique and knowing about it is therefore helpful and essential.

Offset printing is so well known among printing service companies and clients because for large volumes, it is more economical than other options. Hence for bulk orders any good printing company would recommend you to go for offset printing.

The ink used during offset printing has oil as the medium and is insoluble in water. Its name comes from the fact that in this method, images are not transported directly from the plates to the paper but this is done through rubber blankets as a medium.

The process begins by developing the designs. When offset printing started, the images had to be developed by the use of film negatives and they were later transferred to aluminum plates. However, a modern printing company would now prepare the plates directly by using an image setting system. This plate is then put on a cylinder in the proper configuration. Thereafter water, and then ink, is spread on the image plates. The ink is poured over the image and to prevent it from overflowing, a thin layer of water is spread over the remaining part of the plate.

Next, the image is turned around when it is transmitted to a rubber blanket which is stuck to another cylinder. The image is now printed with its correct side looking up by cutting sheets of papers into correct size and placing them on a third cylinder.

Last steps of the printing job involve things such as stapling, gluing or arranging the printed sheets according to the instructions of the client, and any printing company should easily manage these.
